Final Design
This design is mainly conceived from the idea of providing quality of life and good design to elderly people who wish to cook soups.
Design Concept
A range of kitchen tools for cooking and serving traditional Andinan Colombian soups, taking as a case study the preparation of “Ajiaco”. In order to preserve the heritage recipes between generations and promote cooking time.
Generating the design of four tools that will improve the action of cooking, physically and emotionally, focusing on providing safety and comfort especially for elder people.
Assistant Ladle
It is designed to be an assistant in cooking and serving. By simply pressing the power button and giving voice commands, it will provide you information about cooking, when it is time to serve, press the power button for 3 seconds, you will have information on screen about:
The amount in milliliters (mL) per serving ladle.
The temperature of the liquid
These tools incorporate technology that will assist in cooking and serving, thus creating new interactions and good habits among users.
Serving Basket
This tool is designed to dip into the soup and take out solid food when serving. It has a display that only by pressing a button activates its operation, measuring the amount in grams and the temperature of the food.
Peeler Knife
Designed for two purposes, cut and peel vegetables in two different sides of the tool. It comes from the need to have two functions in the same object, the knives for peeling and cutting vegetables are usually very small and need too much precision.
Ceramic Blades Techonolgy: This ceramic blade is made of zirconium oxide, an extremely hard material who doesn’t need to be oversharpened or any maintenance.
Finger Cover
Designed for handling very hot food with the fingers, it is very common to shred the chicken with the hand, but there are certain risks when doing so, the covers protect the skin from the high temperatures that can cause burns.
Front volume: This product is designed with an additional volume at the front of the finger, it allows closing the fingers without making greater efforts that can be painful for a user with joint problems.

2024-25
Prototype observations:
The angle between the handle and the shaft of the ladle, allows more comfort when serving, it is not necessary to turn the wrist so much compared to a common ladle.
The length of the handle must be checked, it could be shorter.
Prototype observations:
This tool is comfortable to use, when using is easy to catch solid food in the soup.
Could be too short for a deep pot, a retractable shaft can be used to adjust the length.
Prototype observations:
This knife is perfect for both uses, it is comfortable and safe to use.
About the length of the blade, it can be shorter to be able to make better force when cutting.
Prototype observations:
The design allows for less strain on the fingers when closing them.
Some holes on the surface should be designed for air flow to the fingers.
