Agricultural activities near Lake Tota in Boyacá, Colombia, have directly affected water quality. Pesticides from crops leach through the soil and affect the chemical composition of the lake water and generate sediments. Sample collection must be done at several points in the lake at different depths and the bottom too, which makes the divers work risky and difficult.
Depend on the Tota's lake water for domestic consumption. This lake has been modified by various human activities, such as deforestation, fish farming, and the monoculture with a high use of agrochemicals, causing deterioration of the ecological characteristics and water quality. The team of scientists must periodically collect samples to be analyzed in the laboratory.

KORE is an AUV concept (robot that travels underwater without requiring the intervention of a human operator) designed to facilitate the activities of collecting samples and monitoring the ecological conditions of Colombia's largest lake.
