About Chompz

Chompz is a hard toy for dogs made of natural rubber developed with durability, safety, and manufacturing efficiency in mind. The main body is made of injection molded rubber, offering high resistance to tearing and deformation under heavy chewing stress.

The textured surface simulates a reptilian skin pattern, enhancing grip, stimulating the gums, and providing tactile enrichment. The form includes subtle character features such as small feet and a rounded organic shape to add visual personality.

Parametric Texture

The diamond-shaped surface texture was designed in Grasshopper. By using attractor curves, I was able to control the intensity and distribution of the texture across the surface, adding both visual interest and tactile variation. The result is a dynamic, parametric pattern that enhances the grip and aesthetic of the product.

Prototype

A 3D-printed prototype was developed to validate the design and assess its real-world performance. This physical model enabled the evaluation of scale, ergonomics, and the effectiveness of the diamond-shaped texture, which was generated parametrically in Grasshopper.

The prototype provided insights into grip comfort, texture definition, ensuring the product meets both functional and aesthetic goals.

Parametric Shape

In the process Grasshopper allowed a very fluid formal exploration just changing some parameters of the 3D Design, for example, to change the radius shape, feet position or shape proportions.
